Have your say on proposed changes between Longbridge and Sutton Coldfield

We would like your feedback on our proposed improvements to bus infrastructure in Birmingham. 

These proposals aim to:  

  • Speed up bus services and their reliability
  • Reduce congestion
  • Improve road conditions by resurfacing the road
  • Improve safety and the experience for pedestrians and cyclists.

Bus stopping area is to be extended to improve accessibility for buses on Bristol Road South merging onto Longbridge Lane. 

 

On Bristol Road South merging onto Longbridge Lane, the widening of the road to help buses enter directly into the bus stopping area. 

 

New bus lane being added on Bristol Road South

 Remove 8 bollards on Bristol Road South and Bodeham Rd junction and provide a new parking bay. 
 Improve the bus shelters to create a better experience for passengers. 
 Create additional bus stopping areas that allow the buses to stop more safely and improve accessibility for passengers.

Add new parking bays near Sylvan Avenue 
Widen the road northbound from Sylvan Avenue to create more space at the junction for vehicles.

Bell Lane/ Sir Austin Herbert Way Junction:

Plans include to improve the traffic signal timings and the potential for yellow box enforcement. There are no physical works proposed.

New northbound bus lanes running between: Maryland Drive to Hole Lane, New House Farm Drive and Middle Park Road, and Witherford Way and Weoley Park Road. 


 New southbound bus lane between Whitehill Lane and St Laurence Rd. This new bus lane will tie into the existing bus lane on the approach to Northfield High St, near St Laurence Rd. 


 Remove 2 trees near Witherford Way and 3 trees near Weoley Park Road to make room for the plans. 


 Improve the bus shelters to create a better experience for passengers. 
 Create additional bus stopping areas that allow the buses to stop more safely and improve accessibility for passengers.


 Widen the road to support road users turning right into Griffins Brook Lane 
 Widen the road near Witherford Way and Weoley Park Road to support u-turns on Bristol Road South.


 Improve the bus shelters to create a better experience for passengers. 
 Create additional bus stopping areas that allow the buses to stop more safely and improve accessibility for passengers. 

Change lane markings on roundabout to reduce queuing and allow for 2 additional lanes.


Add new eastbound traffic lane on A38 Aston Webb Boulevard by narrowing the existing lanes. 


Change the splitter island for a two lane exit from roundabout.

Realign the cycleway on Dale Road
 Change the traffic layout to include:

  • An eastbound and westbound bus gate between North Road and Dale Road/Tiverton Road. 
  • No through route between Dale Road and North Road/Grange Road
  • New two way traffic flow on Dale Road
  • Reverse the direction of traffic on North Road so that traffic can only go northbound

Remove around 7 metres of parking on both sides of North Road to allow large to turn onto North Road from Selly Oak High Street. 

Reverse the direction of traffic on Grange Road so that traffic can only go Southbound.

Add a loading bay on Selly Oak High Street between Grange Road and North Road

Create additional bus stopping areas that allow the buses to stop more safely and improve accessibility for passengers.

Create an eastbound bus gate on Pritchatts Road.

 
Remove on street parking on Prichatts Road.

 
Remove the bus stop on Vincent Drive.

 
Introduce a contraflow bus lane on Pritchatts Drive, this wil reduce congestion at this key pinch point.

Widen the road to support right hand turns onto Edgbaston Park Rd .


Create new bus lanes on Bristol Road South. These are northbound between Edgbaston Road and Pebble Mill Road and southbound between Elmhurst Ballet School and Bournbrook Road.

Widen the road to create an easier right turn onto Pebble Mill Road.

 
Remove 4 trees near Edgbaston Park Road and 1 tree near Pebble Mill Road to accommodate proposals.

Create new bus lanes. These are northbound from Elmhust Ballet School to Priory Road and Viceroy Close to Stone Road; and southbound between Spey Close to Priory Road.

 
Widen the road between Priory Road and Dollery Drive to accommodate new bus lanes.  

Introduce a modal filter on Speedwell Road, restricting access to/from Bristol Road to cyclists only.

Lichfield Road Aston Clock Tower 

Removing of the current bus shelter.  

The left lane on both sides of the Clock Tower to be changed to left only except for buses. 

Keeping the current bus shelters on Lichfield Road.  

Where the current southbound bus lanes end on either side of the junction, these are now to connect right through the roundabout. This bus lane will operate 24 hours. 

Where the current eastbound bus lanes end on either side of the junction, these are now to connect right through the roundabout on both sides of the road. This bus lane will operate 24 hours.  

On both sides of the roundabout, the left lane is to be changed to left only except for buses. 

Adding of a new eastbound bus lane on A38(M) Aston Expressway. 

Aston Expressway merging with Gravelly Hill: 

The Eastbound bus lane to end on the road merger.  

On Tyburn Road near Ansell Road and Jarvis Way: 

Adding two new eastbound bus lanes on Tyburn Road.  

Keeping the existing on-street parking.  

Tyburn Road before Wheelwright Road: 

Adding a new bus shelter to improve passenger facilities, along with extending the bus stopping area for better access for buses.  

Tyburn Road near Bromford Lane 

Adding a new bus shelter to improve passenger facilities, along with extending the bus stopping area for better access for buses. 

Updating road markings to help traffic turn right from Tyburn Road to Bromford Lane.

On Kingbury Road just passed Woodend Lane and Ullrik Green: 

formalising footpath parking, and that pedestrians use the current path behind the verge. 

Adding of a new ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction to help buses go in and out from the bus stop.  

Current bus stop to be kept with the adding of a new bus stopping area.  

Upgrade the current path. 

Kingsbury Road near Bromford Lane: 

Make the footpath parking useable.

On Tyburn Road before Chester Road roundabout: 

We propose to widen the road to improve the bus stop. 

We propose adding two new parking laybys.  

We propose extending the bus lane going towards Chester Road Roundabout. 

We propose keeping the current bus shelter, widen the path so buses can access the bus stop, and the taking out of one tree. 

On Tyburn Road: 

Adding a new bus shelter to improve passenger facilities, along with extending the bus stopping area for better access for buses, adding a new parking layby. 

Adding a new bus lane on Eachelhurst Road between Hansons Bridge to Chester Road. 

Taking away five trees to make room for new parking area.  

Keeping the existing pedestrian crossing. 

 

On Rectory Road at the junctions of Holyfield Road and Whitehouse Common Road, adding two new ‘no waiting at any time’ parking restrictions. 

Along Rectory Road, adding nine new ‘no waiting between 10am – 4pm’ restrictions. 

On Rectory Road opposite Blakemore Drive, adding a new bus shelter to improve passenger facilities, along with extending the bus stopping area for better access for buses.  

 

On Rectory Road, adding two new ‘no waiting between 10am – 4pm’ restrictions.  

To work on the markings on the bus stopping areas to make it more visible.  

Adding a new bus shelter to improve passenger facilities, along with extending the bus stopping area for better access for buses.  

Adding more parking bays, this will increase by the adding of 16 more parking bays. Along with this there will be a new path added for access to the parking bays. 

Adding two new ‘no waiting at any time’ parking restrictions.  

Adding more parking bays, this will increase by the adding of 9 more parking bays. Along with this there will be a new path added for access to the parking bays.

On Churchill Road before Cattell Drive, we are planning to add a new echelon parking bay. There is also a new path being added to access the parking bay mentioned above. 

Along Churchill Road, we plan to add of new ‘no waiting at any time’ parking restrictions.  

In between Churchill Road and Carhampton Road, we aim to extend bus stopping areas for better accessibility for buses.  

The adding of more parking bays on Churchill Road. This will increase to around 12 bays. To do this, we will be moving the centre line in the whole of the parking bay area to help add these extra bays. Along with this there will be a new path added for access to the parking bays. 

Along Churchill Road, we plan to add a new parking bay. 

Between Churchill Road and Carhampton Road, adding a new bus shelter to improve passenger facilities, along with extending the bus stopping area for better access for buses.
